available, but they are no longer. I have found one that is
specialized for Win2k, but the headphone jack doesn't work and I think
it might have to do with me flashing the laptop with this later version
BIOS rom. I'm not sure if it worked before because I just got this
laptop on ebay.

It's not a bios problem. The headphone jack is probably connected to
the mainboard via a ribbon cable that is either broken or loose. If
there are any other ports in the same immediate area, check those also.
You can get ribbon cables from www.sparepartswarehouse.com . Additional
information about your 505fx can be found at
http://pub173.ezboard.com/bunofficialsony . If you truly need a BIOS
update, search on "ftp bios" on that site.
