PCMCIA cards not detected error

Whenever I insert a PCMCIA card into my laptop it completely ignores
it. I have WinXP installed and it doesn't respond at all to the
insertion of a card. I believe it should fire up a prompt asking me to
install the new drivers or at least show up the device in device
manager. I've tried manually installing the drivers and it simply
cannot find the card.

It acts as if the slot is disconnected from the machine, however device
manager shows a Generic CardBus controller as being installed.

I've tried it with a really old PCMCIA card, and a newer CardBus one
and none of them seem to work.

I've had a look inside at the physical condition of the slot and it all
*looks* ok. So, assuming it isn't a hardware fault (which it might well
be), do any of you have a suggestion as to what the problem may be?

Which laptop?

Re: PCMCIA cards not detected error

The same one as I mentioned in my previous post that only you answered
:) It's a Vaio PCG-K115B. I've discovered that there aren't any special
Sony CardBus drivers and that it should work using the default MS
installed ones.
