Re: PCI PARITY ERROR ON BUS/DEVICE/FUNCTION 0008H
PCI Bus parity errors are generated when 1) an component connected to
the PCI bus has failed or 2) the PCI bus itself has failed or 3) a
software component, a driver, for a PCI device has become corrupted.
If this were a desktop computer, you could strip down the PCI devices
and possibly locate and replace the offending device or its driver. On
a laptop computer, especially the Presario 1200 that is now 8-9 years
old and has no removeable components except the HD, optical drive, and
RAM, it is often impossible to track this down. This then becomes the
generic "mainboard failure".
You might find a replacement mainboard on eBay, but first you will have
to identify exactly which of the many sub-species of the Presario 1200
you have, and that can be difficult since there were so many versions
manufactured by Compaq. The serial number tag on the bottom might have
the model (1236, 1248, etc.)
Frankly, I would remove the hard disk and attempt to save your data by
connecting it to a desktop and copying off the files. IMO, the 1200 has
reached the end of its life.
