So I bought an as-is HP ZE5200 which looks to have had a rough life.

"lights come on but nothing happens, motherboard seems to be toast".

It seemed to fail by degrees, slowly.  Here are the steps:

1. Starts to boot, displays a lot of static on the screen, the Linux
'Tux' image can be seen vague ly through it.   Hangs halfway through

2. Starts to boot, but display seems to only be getting brighter - not
actually showing anything.  Plugging a monitor into it's external
display port shows it start to boot the normal way with Linux until it
gets to a splash screen, where it hangs.

3. Powers on but nothing shows on external monitor.

At that point I disassembled it and sold off the RAM and HDD.  I'm
betting that the LCD wasn't the problem, so I plan on selling it.  I'd
like to sell the processor, but for all I know this was due to it
overheating.     Of course the processor is glued to it's
cooling-thing, so I'll have to figure out what to do with that.

What do you think?
