my budget of AU$3000 will provide. Screen no bigger than 12" and small
and compact that will replace my very large Dell Inspiron 8500.
I have investigated the HP Compaq Presario B1800 already with Intel
Centrino M760 (2.00GHz), Windows XP Pro, 512MB DDR2 SDRAM (533MHz), 80GB
(5400 rpm) hard drive, DVD±RW/R, 12.1" TFT WXGA (1280 x 800), Intel®
Pro/Wireless 2200 802.11b/g; Integrated wireless LAN; Integrated
Bluetooth, 1.91kg (device only).
There seems to be a lot of ultraportables coming out but I have not seen
any comparative reports.
All the best,

Re: Looking for an ultraportable notebook
Try www.cnet.com who have reviews of notebook computers. The Sony TR
series is very good but extremely expensive and Dell has at least one
model of subnotebook. I don't think even if there were comparitive
reviews that one could actually trust them since so many reviewers seem
to be in the pockets of the vendors or simply regurgitate vendor press
Most of the ultras have ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) Pentium M at 1.0 to 1.2
Ghz with Enhanced Speedstep to optimize battery life, 10-11 inch
screens, small keyboards, 1.8inch drives, and weigh in at about 3 lb
(1.5 Kg) plus or minus. The 4 lb (2 Kg) notebooks are pretty common
here in the US. I think most vendors have at least one model in that
weight category. Try www.newegg.com , Sony, Acer, and Dell's corporate
sites. Newegg is a US vendor, but will provide infor on what *might* be
available in Oz.
