I have an HP Pavilion n3150 and when I play movies, mp3s, or even surf
the web for too long, my LCD screen starts blinking/flashing. The only
way to stop it is to shut down the PC and let it sit for about 30 min,
then it will work again. I can only watch about 20 min of video before
the blinking is so bad that I can't see anything. With web surfing or
listening to mp3s, the screen is fine for about 30-45 min before the
flashing problem comes up. I assume it's due to overheating (installing
Rain/CPUIdle helped a little). Has anyone else had this problem and
know how to fix it? I'm not sure if it's the LCD itself, or just the
laptop running too hot. Btw, I've had this problem for ~5 yrs since I
bought the laptop.
Re: LCD blinking problem
It does sound like overheating, but you might try reducing the video
acceleration one notch and see it that helps. Also, verify that you
have the latest video driver offered on HP's site. If there are BIOS
updates, see if there are any video-related problems that are fixed with
the updates. I would not update BIOS unless there is something
explicitly stated for video, though.
