Just like the title says. Battery charges just fine. Laptop runs just
fine on battery power. I tried A/C power with no battery but laptop
won't turn on. Battery does not charge while laptop is on. That could be
because laptop is using battery power faster than battery is charging.
Laptop was working just fine until this weekend. Saturday I shut it down
and unplugged A/C adapter. Left, came home the next day, plugged it back
in, started using it and noticed that the "battery charging
light" was on and with in an hour the laptop shut down.
AMD 3400+ (2.21 GHz)
1G RAM Windows XP Home, SP 2
Hope ya can help,
Re: Laptop runs on battery power but not A/C power
Hi, welcome to the group Ron.
First of all you need to ensure that the power unit is working fine,
trying it on another unit will confirm this, or indeed you could try a
'known good' unit on the suspect laptop.
One common problem with the power socket on the laptop, you can
appreciate that solder being tin & lead is soft.... after many pushing
and pulling of the power jack it's quite easy for the soldered
connection around the pins to break... become intermittent or
It could also be a problem with some other component in the laptop, the
bad connection problem is a very common fault with laptops, so trying
the power unit first 'could' save some embarrassment if it was the power
It may be wise to have the battery checked or try by replacement one
way or the other just in case.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
