accessing the hard drive way too much. It seems to have started within
the last couple of weeks, but I don't know what would be causing it to
do so. Whenever it is accessing the hd, it's doing it for typically
~30 seconds - 1 min at a time. It doesn't sound like much, but it's
doing it a lot more frequently here lately, and everything pretty much
stops responding while it's doing this.
It's got a 1.70 GHz centrino processor and 512 MB (shared) RAM. It's
not the greatest configuration, but it works ok for my needs.

Re: Laptop accessing hard drive too often
I doubt this pertains to you, but just in case-- if you are using a
recent version of linux, it may be the application called Kat; just
remove it. o/w could be malware, or perhaps a background task such as
disk defragmentation if you use MS-Windows.
