I've installed Norton AV 2005 on my Inspiron 4000 and I now find my
computer runs really slowing, taking and age to move from one
application to another.
I've noticed that the "page file usage" is really very high. Are the 2
related? Should I get more memory? Will that speed things up for me?
Re: Inspiron 4000 - slowness
You do not say how much RAM you have on your machine. If the page file
usage becomes high, it is fair to assume your installed memory is
inadequate (the page file might be too small too if you changed the
default setting to a fixed size, but I doubt it). My guess is you only
have 250k. Increasing the amount of RAM is always going to be positive
performance-wise, so I would do it. But, NAV is well known for its
impact on performance and lots of people prefer to use other less
ressource consuming Anti-Virus. Personally, I would both dump NAV and
increase the RAM. As which AV is best, I leave it to others here to give
you their advice ....
