Just got a Tosh Satellite S329 (Centrino 1.6). Love it so far, but the
documentation is sparse. There's an Infrared port on the side of the beast.
The docs only say it's an IrDA 1.1 compliant  serial infrared port capable of
4 Mbps in FIR mode.

What would one use this port for, and with what? Nex

Re: Infrared Port for .... ?

Hi Alan,

You can use this ifrared port to synchronize a PDA, Pocket PC or cell
phone; and also to an IRDA enabled printer.

Happy Holidays!

- Data exchange with other IrDA devices, mainly PDAs and mobile phones
- Wireless Internet with GPRS/EDGE/etc connections
- Wireless printing on certain IrDA-equipped printers (I have one.  Tried it
and it didn't work too well.)
- HP even sold an IrDA 'access point' that only supported Windows 95, or
rather, Microsoft only supported IrDA networking (IrLAN) in Windows 95.

IrDA is gradually losing ground to Bluetooth.  Many newer mobile PCs don't
even have IrDA ports.
