My laptop I bought was advertised as having 256 MB RAM and the processor a
2800 + 1.6 Ghz, but wehn I click on the systme properties it says "800 MB
RAM & 2800 + 800 Mhz". I phoned the company and they said it was due to the
software programs installed and said all computers show this inconsistency.
I checked my other computer and it also has inconsistencies. Why is this and
if so, does this mean you're not actually purchasing computers based on
Re: Inconsistencies with system details
1) "800 MB RAM": if true, you have more memory than you paid for.
Is that a problem?
2) "2800 + 800 MHz": Is the CPU and AMD ? If so the "2800" is
the AMD marketing department's notion of how many MHz an Intel
CPU would need to give equivalent performance. Take it with
a grain of salt, except that you bought "2800" and you got
"2800". No issue.
As for the "800 MHz", could that be the CPU's frequency *at
the moment* ? It probably adjusts its clock rate and/or supply
voltage to conserve power under light load. The "1.6 GHz"
would then be the maximum frequency. Try running a heavy
program and check again while running.
