The biggest problem with it is it cannot boot to XP Pro -- when it gets to
the install step it needs the "asms file from the XP Pro CD", from x:86,
which I don't have.
To make things worse the screen randomly dims to barely readable. It tends
to brighten when the XP Pro is trying to boot.
I learned from another newsgroup the meanings of some errors I get, i.e. for
the fan and CMOS battery, but these are hardware issues that depend on
whether I can get an OS going.
Is there any way I can DL the XP Pro "asms" file online? Would any type of
recovery/repair download be available?
I have a W98SE installation CD -- would a solution be to install that
instead of the XP Pro? If so where would be a program that would re-format
My experience is with desktops. I need all the info and help I can get since
I'm learning as I go on this ThinkPad. Thanks,

If you know the exact file name and extension enter it into google and see
what comes up.
If you are getting an error message, enter the entire error message into
I'm sure other people have had this problem and google will lead you to
other peoples discussion.
