If this is a laptop with an internal optical drive:
-Turn the laptop off
-Get a bootable CD (or DVD) (Windows and restore CDs are bootable)
-Put the bootable CD into the drive
-If necessary, set the computer to boot from the CD before booting from
the hard drive
-See if the computer will, in fact, boot from the hard drive
