Re: Hi, how can i change the service tag on a Dell laptop, i had a new motherboard
There should be (there is, with virtual certainty) a utility to do this,
however it may not be available to end-users. Call Dell and ask them.
The service tech who replaced the motherboard should have done this as
part of the repair.
[Toshiba has several utilities for chaning the DMI [Desktop Management
Interface] data (which is probably where this is stored), but they are
not documented to end users and don't come with the systems (they are
available for download, and some of them are even on the end-user system
restore DVD, but deeply burried, with no documentation and no
references, so that a typical end user has almost no chance of finding
them). Some manufacturers are even less forthcoming and truly attempt
to keep these utilities out of the hands of end-users.]
