I notice that many of the laptops I am looking at offer a fingerprint
reader (some for an extra $100). Are these just a gimmick or do they
add to the security and convenience of using your laptop. Other than
logging into Windows, I dont see where it would be helpful Thanks

They do add to security.  You can require a fingerprint to even turn on
the computer, in most cases.  Even if booting from a boot device other
than the hard drive. wrote:
