External Mouse

Bought a Gateway 7246. Bought several external USB mouses because one
wouldn't keep working so I bought a different one, etc. Tried different
brands, different styles... What happens is when I shut down and unplug or
even just walk away for a while with the laptop on, the external mouse quits
working.  I have to unplug it and replug it for it to work.  Is there a way
to find out if the USB ports need to be 'enabled'. I have tried all three
USB ports. The touchpad works at the same time as the mouse but I always
have to replug the external mouse for it to work.
Thanks for any help.

Device Manager: USB root hub, Power Management tab, uncheck allow to
shut off this device to reduce power consumption.

Re: External Mouse

Thanks for responses.  I unchecked on the Power Management tab, shut down
and unplugged.  Started back up, mouse didn't work.   In the Device
Manager>Mice and other pointing devices>selected my external
mouse>Properties>General - shows Location: 0.  Could that be the problem?
If so, how does that change to a USB hub?  The internal touchpad shows a
location of PS/2(internal).  Shouldn't an external mouse show it's plugged
into a USB hub??
