I really wanted to profusely thank Hemant for posting the problem
& William for
coming up with the solution of the docking station.
 I, too, have had this
problem with the same laptop for about 8 months
(it's only 1.5 years old).  I
was about to throw the laptop out the
window or be forced to buy a new one.
I've already invested $135
into repairs and $50 into a new a/c adapter because,
at first, I
thought that it was the adapter that was the problem.   I just
received the docking station, and it works like a charm.  Thanks
again!!! :nod:

This is a very good idea, it's likely that the problem is only in the
connector area, so the dock would bypass it. I've done the same thing on
an old Fujitsu notebook.

The dock is part number DL516A#ABA, and is $50

 From the picture, it looks like you can't use the existing keyboard and
track-pad when it's in the dock.
