erratic touchpad action

Hello all,
I have just changed my laptop (anyone know a good use for an IBM T22
with a duff motherboard?) and got a Toshiba A100. But one strange thing
happens: sometimes when I tap on the touchpad to click, a completely
different function kicks in. For example, I touch-click on the "back"
tab and the "file" menu opens!

Decidedly odd. Is this usual in touch-pad machines ? (the IBM didn't use
a touch pad but had a button in the middle of the keyboard). Or is it a
matter to take up under the machine's guarantee.
I don't know whether the same happens if I connect a mouse. I'll get
hold of a USB mouse (there is no mouse port on this machine) and try it
to see.

Dig around in the mouse configuration.
My touchpad has configurable "touch zones" that perform other functions.

Return address is VALID!

That was it, thanks!
I would never have thought of it.
