I have a LG DVD HL-DT-DVRAM-GSA-4163, It has been working great , but
all of a sudden it will not read or write DVDS. I have Dvd info pro
and it recognized the drive but not the media.I checked into
devices and it is set to  DMA. About a week ago I had a disk that was
infected and took it out immediately. Any suggestions on what I could

Sounds like the DVD laser in the drive has failed.  This really does
sound like a simple hardware failure with no solution other than

Odds are the optical block has failed.  This is the single most unreliable
component in DVD drives.

The only practical way out is to replace the drive (if you can source one).
Replacing the optical block is not a practical proposition.

Happened to me on both the laptops I have bought - solution for me was
an external USB DVDR.

Not ideal, but cheaper.

Anyone with a laptop brand that has reliable DVD?
