connection. Unfortunately the TV resolution is 1366x768 and the
external port of the dual-display laptop - (Compaq nw8000 with ATI
Mobility Fire GL T2) doesn't support that output resolution. So when I
connect the external port of my laptop to connect to the TV it
automatically displays at 1024 x 768 - showing up in a square on the

Is there anything I can do to display at a 16:9 resolution (1366x768 or
720p/1080i) with the laptop ?

If your graphics card does not support 1366x768 (few do), then the nearest
that you can get is 1280x768 which is 15:9.  Some TVs will display this with
a small black band at the sides, but allow you to expand it to fill the
gaps.  Some although officially supporting the resolution actually make a
complete pig's breakfast of actually displaying it and regard it as an
invalid format and not allow you to adjust it.  This may be down to the
individual timing of the signals.
