I have XP home device manager shows two display adapters. It also
shows two monitors (default and a flat panel). Does this make sense
or is it safe to delete one display adapter and the default
Yes it does make sense. Are you using a flat panel monitor? The default
was probably there first until the flat panel was added. As a general
rule from my own experience, it's best to never delete anything from the
Device Manager if you are not sure. Just disable it first and see how
things goes. If your computer locks up on reboot or something, you can
run in safe mode and enable it once again.
Another possibility is that your video card supports two monitors. In
the Control Panel select Display and then the Settings tab. Any mention
of multiple monitors? Then that default display is for an external
monitor and I'd leave it alone. Otherwise that port won't work when
someday you ever do connect up a monitor to it.
