I'm a laptop collector and have been given an old PII laptop at work.
The laptop is a Compaq Armada E500 (400 MHz PII, 64 Mb RAM, 4Gb HD)
but there's no way to turn it on and off correctly.
If I plug in the power cord with the battery inside, the laptop does
not power up. If I take out the battery and plug in the power cord,
the laptop powers up automatically without pressing any button
(neither the power button nor the slide button) and I can enter the
BIOS or boot the OS (Win NT 4).
Once the OS is started, if I choose to turn it off, it does a reset
instead but does not power off. It's also impossible to turn it off by
pressing any of the buttons ...
I think the power-related buttons are not working. Does anyone have an
idea on how it could be fixed?
Thanks in advance,
Re: Compaq Armada E500 does not turn on/off normally...
Hi, I've just tried this but it doesn't solve the problem. The problem
remains the same : the only way to turn on the laptop is by pluging
the power cord without battery being inserted and there's no way to
power it off because both reset and power buttons don't seem to work.
Maybe the only solution would be to find a service manual and take
apart these buttons and try to guess why they don't work...
Thanks anyway for the ideas ;)
