I work for a company that just purchased several of HP's new 2510p
notebooks. We love them, however the only problem is that we have not
been able to get a cable from HP or anyone that will allow us to
easily clone the HD on our Kanguru Clone 4HD cloning machine. They
have one of the smaller 1.8" hard drives and they connect to the
laptop via a ribbon cable that has a ZIF connector on the drives end
and what I gather to be a proprietary HP connector on the notebooks
end. We have seen a few ZIF to IDE connectors available however we
would like to use the other end of the cable since it is much easier
to take off and put back on than the ZIF end of it. Has anyone come
across this same issue and found a solution? Any help would be

I ran into the same issue. I ended up creating an image with "partimage"
the network. Here's what I did, and it can be done with any system:
- Setup
a Linux/Unix VM or stand-alone system with enough disk space
  to hold your
notebook image(s). This will be the "destination" system.
- Create an NFS share
on the destination system (there's plenty of
  tutorials on the Internet for
this step). Make sure permissions on the
  shares are setup properly.
- Boot the
"source" system to be cloned with a Linux Live CD. The
  latest version of
Knoppix works with the HP 2510p, and this is what I
- Open a terminal on
the source system to enter some commands. The
  following commands work in
  $ su root
  # passwd
  # cd /
/etc/init.d/ssh start
  # ifconfig

- "su root"
switches you to become the root user.
- "passwd" allows you to set the root
- "cd /" gives you more room to type commands
- "/etc/init.d/ssh start"
starts the ssh service.
- "ifconfig" will show you the IP address of the system
given by
  DHCP.Now you can ssh into the source system with a program like
PuTTY. I do
this so I can move away from the source system and work from my

Now you can connect the source system to the NFS share on the
destination system:

  # mount -t nfs
<destination IP>:<destination nfs share path> <source mount point> -o nolock

Here's a very simple example:


  # mount -t nfs /mnt -o nolock

Based on the example above, if you "cd /mnt" on the
source system, you
will see the contents of the NFS share on the destination

Now start up "partimage" on the source system to create the image on
the NFS share. There's plenty of tutorials for partimage on the
