Does anyone know how to change the cmos battery on a hp pavilion
ze5170 notebook. I am having to adjust TIME/DATE every time I start
up the computer. Here is what I getting:
0271: Check date and time settings
0251: System CMOS checksum bad - Default configuration used

Has anyone out there ever have this problem and how can it be

The battery is the most likely culprit.  I don't have a service manual
on your model, but on quite a few HP and Compaq models, total
disassembly is required (in fact, the motherboard must often be removed).

I figured it out. Yes, it was the cmos battery.

It does take a little disassembly. :paranoid:

The parts needed are at Radio Shack, a Lithium CR1220 battrey ($5.00)
and a anti-static strap ($5.99). You remove the two screws for the
hinges, remove power on/off cover, remove the four screws for the
keyboard, remove the keyboard, and there it is. This took about 5
minutes to replace and $11.00, thank you to everyone for their
replies. I was determined to fix it myself.
