I got the Fujitsu erase utility and wiped the hard drive.
I've tested the drive using the Fujitsu testing program - and all is

If your hard disk is completely wiped anyway, I would simply re-install
Windows 2000 from the original bootable OS CD, which as part of the
installation process, should allow you to erase the existing partition,
recreate it and format before installing the OS.
There are certain viruses, whose activity can cause MBR problems and
depending on how the drive has been erased, if this is the root of the
problem, the virus could still be there.
