I know that for the early Sony Vaio ultra-lightweights, only the
(external) CD and floppy drives designed for these models by Sony were

I have the following questions:

1. Which specific models does this apply to? All?

2. I am under the impression that this changed at some point. If it
did, when did it?

3. Would using the bootable floppy drive along with a regular
(non-bootable) CD drive (pcmcia or usb) enable one to install or
re-install an operating system?

3. If so, and if it is possible to obtain a floppy boot disk for just
about any OS, what would be the reason to shell out the extra dough
for the Sony CD drive?
