Looking to upgrade the memory in an IBM T41 to 1GB (from 512MB). Got to
thinking, does having TWO memory chips (512MB ea.) consume more battery
power than one (1GB)?

If two consume more than one do the two consume much more, i.e., can you
see it in terms of less battery life (5 min. less, 15 min. less)?

Re: battery power and RAM

Maybe, maybe not; if they are higher density chips (and fewer of them)
with a later fabrication geometry, more memory might actually consume
less power.  Or it could consume more.  You have to compare specific
modules, not just the number of megabytes.  But, in any case, I doubt
you will notice it.  As things in a laptop go, memory is about 5th or
6th in terms of power consumption, and WAY down on the list.
