We recently purchased some Averatec AV3270 laptop computers. However we
have run into a problem. These laptops do not display VESA graphics in
640x480 or higher modes. If booted to DOS they work, but do not work
within Windows XP.

The graphics hardware in this system is a VIA/S3 Unichrome Pro IGP. I
tried the latest display drivers from Averatec and they didn't work.

Are there any other S3 drivers which work with this card/adapter?
Averatec has not offered very good support thus far :(

VESA is  Short for Video Electronics Standards Association, a
consortium of video adapter and monitor manufacturers whose goal is to

More specifically in our case, it relates to the BIOS extensions of the
computer to display extended graphics modes. However under Windows this

prompt within WinXP/Pro. It displays using these video modes. However
it seems that this capability is not supported with Microsoft Windows
NT/2K/XP. It is really up to the video card driver to support it in the
