no more regular reviews in computer magazines, no more flashy
multipage glossy ads. Swamped by Dell?
Still, it *seems* the company is still in business and offers
everything as current as Dell, Acer and Toshiba. It seems
so to me. A Gateway laptop I bought 4 years ago was/is very
nice, nothing's wrong went with it and it was good to begin
I am thinking about buying a new one and giving old one
to my daughter. Display quality will be top priority this time.
Is there something particularly wrong in the current breed of
Gateway products? Something to be aware about?
Thanks for your comments,
Re: anything wrong with current Gateway laptops?
The Gateway of four years ago does not exist following its merger with
eMachine. There is not much visible track record for the new GW,
although from looking around in big box stores, they sell what appear to
be very competitive laptops, fully equipped, including some AMD64
models. Like most vendors with the possible exceptions of Dell, HP,
IBM-Lenovo, they likely purchase off the shelf from Taiwan, Inc. or
China, LLC with their own branding. The old Gateway had decent
offerings and very good warranty support. The warranty support was
fortunate since so much of what they sold desperately required
post-service repair and replacement.
