I purchased an Acer 3020 for my daughter at Christmas which has an AMD
1.8Ghz Sempron 3000 cpu, 512MB mem and a 80Gb HD with separate ATI X700
graphics. I have since reinstalled the os from the restore disk and made the
hd one partition and converted from FAT32 to NTFS.
Now this week I purchased a Fujitsu Amilo L1310G with a 1.7GHz Intel Celeron
M cpu, 1Gb mem and 100Gb HD and onboard ATI X200 graphics..
Both machines are similar with regard to their 15.4" crystalbrite monitor.
Using the two side my side the Fujitsu appears to be noticeably quicker,
applications open quicker and I'm not sure if this is correct... I was
expecting the Acer to be the quicker machine?
On the acer much is as default, all the drivers are loaded from the recovery
disk, I did change virtual memory to "system managed size" and when the
machine boots it does mount a game iso. Nothing is complaining in device
manager and I'm not sure what else to check or if this performance is to be
Is there some software I can run to health check performance? anyone got any
Re: Acer 3020 slow!
My thoughts are that when you buy a laptop these days you need to uninstall
all the crap the vendor has loaded, all the crap that MS has included for you
to not ever use third party software, and only then you have a semi-decent
chance of comparing two machines. Of course, best is to wipe everything and
reinstall the OS but that's too radical for most people.
