1600 x 1200 screen?

These seem to be rare these days.
When I bought my first laptop a few years ago there was a
good selection of14" screens with1600 x1200 resolution
(Dell, IBM, Toshiba).

With my reading glasses on, the screen is ideal for
reading 8.5 x 11"  pdf documents.

I think it's about time for a new computer (my old one's
a bit slow, has USB1.1 and a PCMCIA port that
can't cope with a preN wireless card.)

Howvere, all the screens around seem to be low resolution
(1024 x 768, 1280 x 768 on widescreen and sometimes
as high as 1280 x 1024). What happened to all the high
resolution laptops? Any suggestions for a capable 14"
or 15" laptop with a 1600 x 1200 screen?

No help here. But I hope this is not a trend. I have a hard time dealing
with lower resolutions. When I need to replace this Inspiron 8200, I
would want another 1600 X 1200 display.

The 1600 x 1200 is only limited because of the price.  Dell and IBM offer
one, though I'd opt for the 15 inch IBM t43p.  All it takes is one phone
call, a credit card and FedEx.

The Fujitsu N6210 is a nice alternative.  This is a powerful desktop
replacement that needs to be plugged in frequently.
