Hello,

I have a Siemens SX66, running Windows Mobile 2003 SE. I cannot seem to
install any Microsoft applications on the device. I repeatedly get the
following error:

The file "\Windows\AppMgr\Install\<filename>.CAB" is not a valid Windows CE
setup file."

In the most recent example the app in question is Microsoft Pocket Streets
for Smartphone, but I have had this happen several times, and and I have
seen much anecdotal evidence on-line that other are also having this
problem. I have been to Micrsoft's site
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;%5Bln%5D;839561, but their
solution is for users (or developers) to write their own installers, being
sure to bundle no more than 998 files in a CAB.

Does anyone have any further insights into this?

Thanks

The SX66 is not a Smartphone device, it is Pocket PC Phone Edition.
Smartphone applications likely won't work with the Phone Edition device.
You will need Microsoft Pocket Streets for Pocket PC.

Yep, David couldn't be more correct. The SX66 is a fully fledged
PocketPC with a few hardware additions that allow it to act as a phone
when needed. Therefore, should you want to run any applications on it,
they must be designed for PocketPCs not SmartPhones. I hope this post
is of some help.

Cheers,

Faust.

Heh... How embarrasing is that? At least I knew it was Windows, and not
Palm, right?

Thanks for the help.

No worries. At least you didn't say "How do I install this Windows Mobile
application on my Treo 650." :-)
