Hello,

At work we have a security policy whereby we have to lock
our laptop with a Kensington lock
to the desk. There is a small hole on
the side of the laptop where such a lock can
be fit in. However I lost the key and I
am too embarrassed to bring it up. Now we
need to bring our laptops to a training
session and I am not sure what to do. Does
anyone know whether it is possible to get a
master key for Kensington locks so that I may unlock
it? Can anyone suggest a solution?

Thanks,

JG

If the purchasing/IT department is very, very good they would have
written down thelock's serial number before they gave it to you. It's
under the plastic sleve on the key. If you have the serial number you
can order replacement keys.

Unless you have some improved version, they're not hard to pick. Google
and you'll find some instructions and even videos on how to do it.

Call me jaded, but the story sounds fishy.

What's fishy sounding about instructions for picking a lock?
