I am trying to import an AVI file to burn a DVD and i get the following
message.

The file C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Disc
Temp\csi.ny.211.hdtv-lol.[VTV].avi cannot be imported because the codec
required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have
already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows
Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

where do i get the required codec?

Install FFDshow. It will playback xvid/divx encoded files

Download GSpot.
This will tell you what CODEC AVI file requires. Download and Install that
Codec and you should be all set.
