Layout problem

Threaded View

I have an embeded flash object, which as soon as I add it to my page
code the page layout goes wrong in IE7.

<div id="flashbanner" style="width:620px;height:189px;display:block;z-
                <param name="movie" value="myflash.swf">
                <param name="wmode" value="transparent">
                <embed wmode="transparent" src="myflash.swf"
width="620" height="189">

It looks as expected in Firefox.

Before introducing the flash object there was an image object.

<img src="pageBanner.jpg" alt="pageBanner" id="pageBanner" />

The page layout is fine when this code is in place.

I thought it was to do with the way IE laysout the bage, but I have
reduced the width's and I still get the problem. Which effects the
entire page evrything floats left when the swf object is embeded.

Any suggestions welcome, I have tried many suggested fixes from
internet searches without any luck.

You see, this is one of the reasons why it is very important to:
A. Validate your work before bringing it here
B. Post a URL to your latest endeavor

If you tried to validate the above markup, you would have seen that the
object element is closed but there is no opening element.  Now, we don't
know whether that's a copy/paste error on your part, or if that's really
what the markup is, without being able to see the real source.

Apologies a paste error on my part, here is the code as it appears in
my page:

<div id=3D"flashbanner" style=3D"width:620px;height:189px;background-
            <object width=3D"620" height=3D"189">
                <param name=3D"movie" value=3D"myflash.swf">
                <param name=3D"wmode" value=3D"transparent">
                <embed wmode=3D"transparent" src=3D"myflash.swf"
width=3D"620" height=3D"189">

Unfortunately I am unable to give you a URL as this page is currently
only visible on our private network.

If I only include the div in the page code:

<div id=3D"flashbanner" style=3D"width:620px;height:189px;background-

Then the box appears in the right place. As soon as I add object it
messes up the layout of the entire page. As I cannot give a URL or a
screen shot this is difficult to show.

Maybe there is a different way to embed the video, say using
javascript (which I am going to try next).

I notice that you set the div to the exact same size as your
flash object. I wonder if you are not running into problems
with padding/margins (including browser defaults)?

Make a page which reproduces the problems, and post it on a
publicly accessible server. Actually, it's quite possible that
in reducing the problem to a specific page, you will uncover
the error!

That should not be necessary.

You are not paying attention. Here's the markup version.

<h1>Go back to Adrienne's step A:</h1>

<strong>Validate your work before bringing it here.</strong>

<a href=" /">Validate before anything else.</a>

<h2>After that proceed to step B:</h2>

<em>Post a URL to your latest endeavor.</em>
