I have been asked to create a web site for a new small budget magazine.
This is my business and have been doing it for 8 years but with a web
site project with a certian amount of pages, upload and finish.
This one goes on and on..
Initallialy it will have 10 pages, then over a period of a month have 50
pages each from the pages of the magazine with lots of ads and images.
This will stay online for 2 months then deleted and another 50 will go up.
It will have a membership area we will set up where they can see
extended stories of those in the magazine. These will have to be
created and uploaded, maybe 20 per magazine. It will have interaction
forums, and voting etc., all of which we will have to do.
As you can see, it is an ongoing project.
The magazine has rejected my normal page creation rates and our hourly
rates as too much as this is ongoing, yadda yadda.
Before I go back to him, thought I might get a few constructive ideas
here. Of course it it all relative and ultimely I know I will have to
We also host the site.

As a small business person, you need to respect what your time is
worth to you.
If you feel the price is what that time is worth _to_you_ (not to
them), I wouldn't budge much on the price, if at all -- unless you're
really desperate for business. Remember that if you give them a
reduced price, whatever time you spend doing work on the cheap is not
available to bill at your regular rates.
