I'm working on a proximity app for the htc mogul (wm6 smartphone from
sprint), and I notice that the bluetooth radio seems to turn itself
off when the screen turns off (i.e. after 30 seconds of no activity).
The only way I have been able to make it not turn the bt radio off is
to pair my laptop with the phone and enable internet connection
sharing via bluetooth over the phones evdo connection.

Having said that, it is obvious that there is a way in software to
keep the phone from turning the bt radio off because ICS does it.
Anyone know how via software and/or a registry hack? FWIW, I think
most smartphones work this way - which is pretty braindead IMHO -
especially given that the iphone's bt radio is always on and doesn't
suffer from this problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe "SetPowerRequirement" will work.

This isn't normal behaviour for Windows Mobile, so must be something
specific to the Mogul. Are there any power options / HTC specific utilities
which allow you to set this?

Scott and Peter,

Thanks for replying - I will try writing a little program to use
SetPowerRequirement. Do either of you happen to you know what string
name I should pass in for the bluetooth adapter is (i.e. the
equivalent of COM1: in the API example)?

As far as being normal behavior for Windows Mobile - I agree it seems
crazy, but it isn't just the Mogul. Another guy working on a similar
application mentions it being a problem on the Treo 650 here:

Maybe I'll try to call HTC also and see what they say - I've looked
everywhere in the UI for a way to change this behavior with no luck
but maybe they'll have a registry hack if I get lucky and talk to
someone who knows something.

I don't know what the string should be, but try searching for com1 in
the registry. I know there's some place which has lots of those names
all in one place and you'll probably find the one you need near there.
That's the limit of my scant knowledge.
