Is there a way to silence ActiveSync? I use ActiveSyncToggle, which. like a
few other utilities and scripts around, stops activesync (wcescomm.exe and
wcesmgr.exe)and removes the startup item from the HKCU registry key until
you run it again.

But as long as my unit is in the cradle, ActiveSync can't stop interfering;
it somehow seems to have the compulsory need to find all ways possible to
(re)start whenever the device is in the cradle.

Sometimes I can explain why, like when starting Windows Media Player, which
also feels the need to detect a device and want to synchronize with it. I
didn't find out how to stop this.

But from time to time my device stands idle in the cradle, with no programs
running, ActiveSync disabled, and suddenly it starts running all by itself.
Often this is when I start some program, but it can happen with say my
newsreader as well as with any random program. None of these programs have
commands (let alone possibilities) to look for mobile devices or sync
content with external devices.

Why does ActiveSync behaves like a hijacker? Is there an explanation for
this compulsory and unwanted behaviour, and even better, a definite solution
beside uninstalling ActiveSync, so I can regain control over my own PC
again?

FTR:iPAQ hx4700, WM2003SE, AS3.8

Thanks in advance.

Since you have AS 3.8, why not simply set sync to manual?

Sorry, it is not about _synching_ the PDA, which is set to manual, it's
about _connecting_ the thing in the first place. I want it standing in the
cradle without starting AS at all.

I feel your pain. The only option I know is to disconnect the usb cable
(which I do)
