Here is the procedure for removing the optical drive:
1. Remove the hard drive.
2. Remove one M2.5x5 screw that holds the drive in place. It's on the
bottom of the laptop, it's approximately at the rear center of the drive
(so about 6" back from the drive door bezel, near the middle).
3. The drive then just slides out, however if it's tight, it can be
pushed out from inside the hard drive compartment.
