Doesn't WXP have a utility that will give time up info and log it so if
there is a crash, you have a history?  Or any favorite freebies?

There are plenty of free utilities out there, just check the major
download sites like www.download.com or www.majorgeeks.com.

If you want one that is part of a customizable set of system monitors
try  CoolMon at www.coolmon.org or Samurize at www.samurize.tk.

I've got a CoolMon config on the desktop now displying uptime, CPU
load, Top Process and net read/write.

I don't know about XP, but for Win9x I keep a bootup.log by adding a
single line to my autoexec.bat file (watch the word wrap):

%COMSPEC% /CFOR %%v IN (1 2) DO PROMPT $D $T $_ | FIND "-" >>
