rate this thread
recently today after I did a drive image backup. It started backing
at a good rate and then slowed to a snails pace. After back up was
done I checked and saw it had changed to PIO mode.
So I deleted the controller and rebooted and it returned to UDMA mode
Any ideas why this would occur? Googling I read about CD players
doing this but no mention of hard drives doing it
AMD Athlon 64 3500
OCZ Gold Edition Rev3 Dual Ch. 184-Pin 1GB DDR PC-3700
ATI RADEON 9200
Creative Audigy Xgamer
Sony DRU-720A DVD
Toshiba DVD SD-M1912
Seagate 160GB 7200RPM IDE
WD 60GB IDE
Re: Primary IDE channel changing from UDMA mode 5 to PIO mode
It doesnt do that because its risky for your data
if its getting multiple CRC errors or timeouts.
Post the Everest SMART data for the drives.
Try another cable, and dont use one of the standards
flouting round cables. That will likely fix the problem.
