Has anyone ever had a problem where their PC just restarts at random times
(and also sometimes turns itself on and off...), it does it if you leave it,
if you are using it, if its been on 1 minute or 1 day makes no difference. I
cannot seem to be able to identify WHY it reboots, there's no common link
each time it restarts :( . There's nothing about it in the Event Viewer.
It's plugged into a spike protected power point. When it restarts its like
the reset button has been pressed, (i.e. everything just goes off and it
start from the bios screen again, no "Windows is shutting down" etc.)
It's running Windows XP, has 1Gb RAM, and i think a 1700MHz P4 (might be
AMD, will have to check)
Any ideas anyone??

Yes you should check, then concisely list all major
components including motherboard and PSU make/model.
Check temps, voltages (preferribly with a multimeter, but
even a bios or software reading is a start). Examine
interior for loose cards or cables and vented capacitors.
The power supply is a prime suspect.
