- P4 single or dual processor?

Am about to decide for the bits for a new comp. I want an Intel processor
and going for LGA775 in either the 600 or 800 series which are single and
dual processors. I want to spend around £230-£250 on it. Dual processor
sounds cool but I get lower clock speed for the same money. Single processor
I can get a 3.4/3.6 Mhz whereas I for a dual processor can only get 3.0Mhz.
What to choose? Or more precisely: On what should I base my decision? I use
the PC for lots, the most CPU demanding being programming (compiling) and
video editing. Also, I use it for "normal" stuff like office applications
and playing music. It is (and will be!) a one person user at all times (ie
several people will not have access at the same time).
Re: P4 single or dual processor?
PhotoShop 5.5+ and some other recent apps are specifically multithreaded/SMP
aware. I don't know of any others specifically.
Multitasking environments are another issue; I think many more of us do
that, where tasks are running in the background. Don't forget about
antivirus apps, etc...
