- Outlook Express won't run...script error

rate this thread
user fine. But Outlook Express running under my wifes' user name will
not run any more. As soon as it starts, a box pops up which say
"Internet Explorer: an error has occurred in the script". NO other
info at all. Internet Explorer? I didn't know that Outlook had to
invoke Internet Explorer in order to run! Anyway, there are two
buttons to click at the bottom, but neither cancels the error
message, and you cannot shut down Outlook except through the task
manager. I have thought about deleting her Outlook account and
re-creating it. I guess this has to be tried, but there is no
gaurantee that will fix the problem, and she has lots of unread
messages she cannot access. Ideas?

Copy her message store (folder) to back it up, then delete
the original *.dbx files (only those in the active OE mail
store folder, leaving the backup intact). Try launching OE
again. If it works you have something in one of the mail
boxes that's causing it, and may be left adding these DBX
files back one at a time until you find the offending file.
I'm not certain that will fix it, just one thing to try.
Has anything else on the system been changed recently,
perhaps some IE settings or MS auto-updated patches or ??
You might also run chkdsk and scan for viri/malware/etc.
Also wander around MS' website looking for Outlook Express
Script search results,
