Re: New system won't post

I should probably post my own, but as my problem is startlingly
similar to this one - I'll tack it on...

The biggest difference I have is that, when I power up the board with
only the CPU installed, I get 3 error beeps telling me there is no
memory, but the CPU fan will spin at full speed as long as the power
is on.  Once I plug in a stick of RAM, the fan spins for 2 seconds and
the whole things stops - no error beeps or anything.  If there video
card is installed I get no video output, but its the same arresting
POST when it's not installed.  I've tried 2 different sticks of RAM in
all sockets and it makes no difference (and I been through the entire
gamut to ensure it is compatible), reset the CMOS, etc.

So basically the question is - would a bad PSU be able to power the
mobo/processor alone, but then fail when it has to power the RAM as

If you start your own thread, you can give all the details, like
the motherboard being used, the CPU, video card type, PSU etc.

It almost sounds like you have a Gigabyte Core2 motherboard, but
we'll have to wait until you list your hardware.
