HDD problem in bios

I am trying to revive an old system (Asus P4P Deluxe - P4 2.6) after a
HDD failed. I threw out the HDD and put in another (Hitachi). This one
is master on primary IDE, a DVD is slave. Reinstalled XP - works fine.
Now I connect a 2nd IDE drive (Maxtor, master on secondary IDE). In the
bios the configuration is correctly detected. But If I try to change the
boot-sequency I don't see the 1st drive. Only the Maxtor can be selected
for boot.
I have no ideas anymore to try to solve this. If anyone has, please let
me know.

Did you get the bios to detect the 2nd drive?

Yes. Problem is solved now. I had to disable SATA. Then the 2 drives are
correctly displayed in the boot sequence menu...
