Re: firewall ??
I like Sygate's free firewall better. Then again, it depends on how you
define "better". Sygate doesn't harass you to upgrade to the pro version
all the time. For me, that's better.
If you mean better as in strength, probably not. Any widely used
firewall will work well enough. The key is on how it is configured. If
you open up more than you should, it will become less secure. How much
you should open up, is a much bigger question that I won't go into here.
Re: firewall ??
I've used Zone Alarm free version..... Zone Alarm paid version...... and
many other anti-virus and anti-spyware programs.
Then about a year ago.... I tried the paid version of Trend Micro's
"PC-cillin" - the full Security Suite..... and I love it.
I now have about half a dozen licenses for TM's Security Suite 2005 - (I
have a few computers) ... and I have yet to run into ANY BUGS AT ALL
with this software.
It's very easy to use, and the tech support is excellent.
Although Zone Alarm was good.... I ran into little problems
When trying to buy vitamins at iHerb.com ..... their web-site told me I
had turn off my firewall to shop their web-site.
(I emailed them.... they said the same thing)
Stuff like that doesn't happen with the Trend Micro firewall.
Nor does TM's software slow your machine down to a crawl.... like Norton
Since I have so many machines..... I now buy the 3-License-Paks .
You can buy straight from the Trend Micro Web-site ..... but
"Techonwen.com is a little cheaper.
You can buy the download online.... or you can pay a little more and buy
the retail box - (the disk with 'quick start' manuals).
I don't recall the exact price that I paid at 'Techonweb.com'.... but I
think it breaks down to about $25 per machine.
It's well worth it.
I also like to keep Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Spyware Blaster on my
machines... just for good measure. (all free ..... all good)
BTW # 2
I've been buying stuff on-line for many years now (7 or 8)..... but I
had always been afraid to do any other banking online - (I have 10
Now .... with Trend Micro.... I do all my banking online, and I do not
worry about somebody messing with my accounts anymore.

If you are using Cable or DSL.... be sure to use a hardware firewall IN
ADDITION to your software firewall.
D-Link makes a cheap Router/Firewall combo that installs with no hassle.
