Have you every had similar problem and how have you recovered data ?

I've got Western Digital Caviar disc of the following parameters:

Model Number: WDC WD200EB-00BHF0
Firmware Number: 511.M551
Drive Type: IDE
Capacity: 20.02 GB

I've noticed that when the computer was running, the disc used to stop
working and only slight moving of it turned it on (sounds like disc
restart). Since the problem happened more often lately, I tried to
disconnect and connect IDE streamline (at run-time) and , only once,
power supply to the disc (sic!), which caused flash light and computer
turned down. The computer works and the disc:

1. was recognized by BIOS
2. recognized by Device manager (Windows XP)
3. unfortunately partisions are invisible (in My computer)
4. and also I couldn't see the disc under Computer
management->Store->Disc management
5. I've also got erros during mounting this disc under Linux

I"ve tested the disc with the help ofWestern Digital Data LifeGuard
Diagnostics (for Windows). Here are the results of first one:

Test Option: QUICK TEST
Test Result: FAIL
Test Error Code: 06-Quick Test on drive 2 did not complete! Status code
= 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 65 (Error Log
Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 2!
Test Time: 00:44:23, March 06, 2006

Second one:

Test Result: PASS
Test Time: 01:12:44, March 06, 2006

during which bad sectors were corrected. Then next QUICK TEST was

Now the disc can be seen in Computer management->Store->Disc management
, but instead of former partitions there is description (18, 64 GB, Not
partinioned) (This could be wrong English translation, since I'm using
native language in Windows, but gives the idea).

Can I recover any data from the disc,

Re: Data recovery from WD disc

Only way is to slave that disk into another computer,
and try to read it. I can't believe that 20 gig Caviar even
spins up.
