I am converting an old computer fan into a blower.

Over here at 240 volts, its speed is not adequate.

Before doing something dangerous with any motor, you need to
characterize the type first, to understand what it can handle.

For one motor type, if you take a look at page 7 here, you can
see that the motor speed is a function of "poles" and the
AC frequency used. For some motors, to change speeds, you'd
need a different winding pattern.

The number of poles is mechanically fixed, on motors like this.
