A mate has a Vaio whizzy laptop with on-board wireless lan and lots of other
goodies. It seems to work properly except for the wireless bit. I had a

through this computer option (in the connection/properties) was ticked. I
unticked it and the connection worked fine, all internet stuff was fast and

finished its stuff, a reboot was required and following this action, the
thing would not connect again, no matter how many times I tried with the

When you write that you updated Norton, which Norton did you mean? If it
was Norton security suite its firewall function might be blocking you.
Can you disable that for a moment to see if wireless connection is
possible and whether you can at least see the contents of the other
computer on the network? While the firewall is disabled you may want to
disconnect your broadband from the router if running bare makes you
nervous. Also, you might want to try a wired ethernet connection to the
router to see if that works -- it might provide a clue.
